Description
Summary:Previously abstracted from original as item 8907-3.3-0223Y. The inhomogeneity of beta -solid solution in Al--Si alloys is investigated with respect to Al, oxygen, Na, and Sr. It is found that solid solution inhomogeneity in Al--Si alloys is related to nonuniform Al and O distribution within the crystals. Alloying by Na and Sr leads to the redistribution of Al and O in Si-based beta -solid solution crystals. Changes in the growth forms and morphology of primary and eutectic Si crystals in Al--Si alloys are associated with the formation of inhomogeneous beta -solid solution. Alloys studied include Al--18Si, Al--18Si--0.1Sr and Al--18Si--2Na. Diffraction patterns, graphs, photomicrographs. 15 ref.--X-ref.(US).
