Description
Summary:Electrical resistivity and static magnetic susceptibility measurements were performed on a new type of high-T sub c superconductor BiCaSrCu sub 2 O sub y (y approx = 6.4) in the temperature range 70K < = T < = 310K. The stoichiometry of this compound is described as BiCaSr(Cu sub 0.1 exp 2+ Cu sub 0.9 exp 3+ ) sub 2 O sub 6.4 . The electrical resistivity shows superconductivity below T sub c = 73.9K, and undergoes a steplike change at 110K, suggesting a high-T sub c phase. The linear temperature dependence of the resistivity is observed in the temperature range 130K < = T < = 254K. The susceptibility shows a Curie--Weiss behavior with Theta = --113.1K and P sub eff = 0.56 mu sub B /mol Cu, because of antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between localized Cu exp 2+ spins. From a temperature-independent susceptibility, the electronic specific heat gamma sub e1 and the density of states D(E sub F ) are determined as gamma sub e1 = 12.0 mJ/mol Cu K exp 2 and D(E sub F ) = 5.09 states/eV Cu atom. 9 ref.--AA
