Magnetic and magnetoresistive properties of multilayered permalloy thin films

This study clarifies the magnetic and magnetoresistive properties of multi-layered Permalloy thin films with different magnetostrictions. The films consist of two, four and eight layers of Ni-17wt.%Fe and Ni-22wt.%Fe. The total film thickness is 36 nm. The film coercivity and magnetostriction decrea...

Description
Summary:This study clarifies the magnetic and magnetoresistive properties of multi-layered Permalloy thin films with different magnetostrictions. The films consist of two, four and eight layers of Ni-17wt.%Fe and Ni-22wt.%Fe. The total film thickness is 36 nm. The film coercivity and magnetostriction decrease as the number of layers increases. The magnetoresistivity increases as the number of layers increases. The effect of the magnetostriction on the magnetoresistive response of the thin film element decreases as the number of layers increases. The coercivity and magnetic domain depth profiles show a periodic change.
