Temperature-Dependent Secondary Electron Yield From Ion Bombardment of Gold and Copper Oxide Superconductors

First measurements on the ion-induced kinetic secondary-electron emission have been performed with low beam current densities in the low target temperature range 70K < T < 300K under good vacuum conditions (p approx 5 x 10 exp --7 Pa) from sputter-cleaned Au foils (1000 A) and from YBa sub 2 C...

Description
Summary:First measurements on the ion-induced kinetic secondary-electron emission have been performed with low beam current densities in the low target temperature range 70K < T < 300K under good vacuum conditions (p approx 5 x 10 exp --7 Pa) from sputter-cleaned Au foils (1000 A) and from YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 . The secondary-electron yield gamma decreases with decreasing temperature of Au and YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 targets. This is in contrast to the expectations based on previous experiments and theoretical considerations. In the case of YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 , a strong enhancement of gamma below the superconducting transition temperature T sub c is observed. 27 ref.--AA
