Summary: | The thermal effect of a 127,000-m super(2) pond on the surrounding built-up area of Fukuoka, Japan, was documented. When the pond was filled with water, air temperature distributions demonstrated a clear cool island effect. This phenomenon was more pronounced in the afternoon with a temperature differential of about 3 degree C between the center of the pond and the far outside streets. When the pond was drained, a cool island caused by the wet bed diminshed with half the differential. |
