Description
Summary:A radiative-convective boundary layer model was developed by coupling a thermodynamic model of a partially mixed convective boundary layer (CBL) with a radiation model, and energy balance constraints were used to study coupled boundary layer (CBL) equilibrium over three timescales (about 1 day, about 10 days, and more than 100 days). It is shown that the variation in cloud top decreases with greater coupling to the atmosphere and the ocean. The slope of the latent heat flux with increasing SST decreases with more tropospheric coupling, and reverses sign with a coupled ocean.
