Summary:In this study, World Bank socioeconomic data of 61 countries during 2009–2015 combine with a semi-systematic literature review was applied to analyze the relationship between plastic consumptions and socioeconomic levels statistically. Based on a total data volume of 5551, we found that all countries can be divided into different groups like the continent, income status, and coastal countries. It is showed that most plastics were consumed by North America, Europe, high-income countries, and coastal countries in the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. A potential relation occurred in plastic consumptions with different socioeconomic parameters like Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, life expectancy, agriculture land use, etc. The results indicated the need should continue to support initiatives to cover identified gaps, either geographic or thematic, to address plastic consumptions.
