Crystal structure refinement of Y sub(2)Cu sub(2)O sub(5) from single crystal x-ray diffraction data

Summary: | Y sub(2)Cu sub(2)O sub(5) single crystals have been obtained as a secondary phase during the YBa sub(2)Cu sub(3)O sub(7-x) superconductor crystallization in a copper oxide excess. Crystal structure of orthorhombic Y sub(2)Cu sub(2)O sub(5) has been refined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction method with a final R value of 0.06 (R sub(w) = 0.07). The structure can be described in terms of one-dimensional Cu sub(2)O sub(5) chains lying along the super( arrow right )a) axis. Between these chains the yttrium atoms occupy octahedral sites. |
