Description
Summary:Previously abstracted from original as item 9206-56-0696. A study was done to determine the possibility of obtaining a uniform structure in powder metallurgy high-Cr steel by the introduction of Cu or Cu-base alloy powders in the blend. These additions significantly accelerated Cr diffusion in the steels, made from blends of Fe and PKh30 steel powders, during sintering due to liquid phase formation. The K sub Ic fracture toughness and impact resistance of the sintered steels, containing 1-2% Cu or Cu-base alloy additions, were increased before and after carburizing or chromizing treatments. Hydroabrasive wear resistance of the carburized and chromized materials that contained Cu and Cu-base alloy additions was excellent for low and high angles of attack of the abrasive media.
