Crystallization of BiZnFeBO glasses

Glassy or polycrystalline samples containing Bi 2O 3ZnOFe 2O 3B 2O 3 have been prepared. The main crystalline phases separated during the cooling were BiFeO 3, ZnFe 2O 4, α-Bi 2O 3 and β-Bi 2O 3. Description
Summary:Glassy or polycrystalline samples containing Bi 2O 3ZnOFe 2O 3B 2O 3 have been prepared. The main crystalline phases separated during the cooling were BiFeO 3, ZnFe 2O 4, α-Bi 2O 3 and β-Bi 2O 3. Neutron diffraction studies detected also the presence of iron oxide clusters. Thermal analysis performed on the vitreous samples gave the glass transition temperature and the crystallization temperature. The activation energy of the crystallization process for one sample was measured by isothermal and dynamic methods. The values obtained are 191 and 182 kcal/mol respectively. The reaction order was equal to 1.35.
