Summary: | The elastic constants of polycrystalline Al sub 3 Sc have been investigated at room temperature and have been found to be in satisfactory agreement with recent calculations. The Debye temperature was estimated to be nearly 604K and the bulk elastic properties have been presented. It is suggested that such measurements are important in the construction of physically realistic interatomic potentials of metallic solids. Furthermore, they are of importance in consideration of the structural applications of Al-based intermetallic phases where fabrication and mechanical behavior modelling are significant issues.
