Description
Summary:Previously abstracted from original as item 9209-52-1300. Changes in structure and texture of cast VT-6S pseudo- alpha Ti alloy after deformation in the beta -region at 1100-1200 deg C on a hammer, rolling mill and hydraulic press at strain rates of 10-10 exp 2 , 0.5 and 10 exp --1 s--1, respectively, were studied. The reduction in grain size from 3 mm (as-cast) only occurred at 1200 deg C during hammer deformation. The greatest reduction in as-cast grain size occurred after forging on all sides by the hammer at 1200 deg C. Little if any reduction in grain size occurred by the other methods of deformation, although the as-cast grains did elongate. Dynamic recrystallization of the cast beta -grains only occurred during hammer forging at 1200 deg C. Pole figures of beta - and alpha -grains confirmed these results.
