Description
Summary:The formation of various phases in self‐propagating high‐temperature synthesis of titanium silicide with 15 wt% SiC was studied. It was observed that the addition of SiC as a reinforcing agent significantly influences the thermodynamics and kinetics of the combustion process when compared with the combustion synthesis of titanium silicide alone. Hardness and fracture toughness of this composite were directly obtained from the porous compact by using micro‐indentation technique and the fracture toughness of this composite was found to be significantly enhanced with the addition of SiC.
