Effects of tempering in a ferrite-martensite steel

The investigation studied the effects of tempering and cold rolling before tempering on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a plain C--Mn steel. The tempering temperatures varied from 600-700 deg C. Normal tempered microstructure and a dual phase microstructure were observed in the 20 mm...

Description
Summary:The investigation studied the effects of tempering and cold rolling before tempering on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a plain C--Mn steel. The tempering temperatures varied from 600-700 deg C. Normal tempered microstructure and a dual phase microstructure were observed in the 20 mm thick plate of composition (wt.%) 0.13 carbon, 1.05 Mn, 0.23 Si, 0.028 sulfur, and 0.012 phosphorus. Mechanical properties and structure--property correlations are discussed. Graphs, Photomicrographs. 7 ref.--M.W.C.
