Summary: | Stefan-like problems at the surfaces over which a layer of solid grows in a flowing liquid melt are considered. The onset of convection is reviewed and averaging procedure for evaluating heat transfer coefficients in a stationary and rotating surfaces in contact with a convective fluid are described. The influence of the transition from laminar to time-period, chaotic and turbulent motion on the non-uniformities and striations at the growth interfaces is discussed. |
