Formation of fluoride glasses based on AlF sub 3 -YF sub 3 -PbF sub 2 system
Colorless glasses about 1 mm thick are prepared by quenching melts on a C plate. Upon replacing PbF sub 2 by RF sub 2 (R=Mg, Ca, Ba) or replacing YF sub 3 by YbF sub 3 , glass thermal stability against crystallization improves. Glasses with optimized composition are more stable than AlF sub 3 -YF su...

Summary: | Colorless glasses about 1 mm thick are prepared by quenching melts on a C plate. Upon replacing PbF sub 2 by RF sub 2 (R=Mg, Ca, Ba) or replacing YF sub 3 by YbF sub 3 , glass thermal stability against crystallization improves. Glasses with optimized composition are more stable than AlF sub 3 -YF sub 3 -CaF sub 2 -BaF sub 2 glasses, and rods or disks are prepared. The AlF sub 3 -YF sub 3 -PbF sub 2 -based fluoride glasses have a wide transmission window and higher chemical durability and mechanical strength than those in the ZrF sub 4 system, and are promising for fiber or laser window material applications in the mid-ir region. |
