Microstructure and Microwave Properties of YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7-- gamma Thin Film on CaNdAlO sub 4 (001)

High-quality YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7--x thin films have been grown on CaNdAlO sub 4 (001) substrates by in situ laser ablation. The best transition temperature determined by A.C. susceptibility midpoint was 88.3K with a critical current density of 10 exp 6 A /cm exp 2 at 77K. The full width at ha...

Description
Summary:High-quality YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7--x thin films have been grown on CaNdAlO sub 4 (001) substrates by in situ laser ablation. The best transition temperature determined by A.C. susceptibility midpoint was 88.3K with a critical current density of 10 exp 6 A /cm exp 2 at 77K. The full width at half maximum of the X-ray rocking curve of the YBCO(004) peak was 0.33 deg . The film crsytallinity was slightly worse than those grown on LaAlO sub 3 and NdGaO sub 3 judging from electron channeling patterns. A 2.3 GHz resonator made from a YBCO film on CaNdAlO sub 4 exhibited a low power Q of 3945 which is worse than films on LaAlO sub 3 (Q approx 18 000) and also lower than the expected value from loss tangent data.
