13C NMR methods have been used to investigate the effect of high temperature heating of films, fibres and powder of polypyromellitimide on the structure of the macromolecules and orientational properties of the fibres. It is shown that structural ordering induced by high temperature heating affects the diphenyl oxide part of the macromolecule. The orientation factor of the fibres on heating rises significantly. On subsequent thermolysis the macromolecules draw nearer as a result of their crosslinkage. |
