Description
Summary:Amorphous Ni--Nb ribbons were produced by melt spinning. The compositions were Ni sub 44 Nb sub 56 , Ni sub 55 Nb sub 45 , and Ni sub 62 Nb sub 38 . The samples were measured in the as-quenched state and after various heat treatments. Annealing in Ar was performed between 873-973K. The crystallization of amorphous Ni sub 44 Nb sub 56 begins at 913K as formation of the eta -phase. The onset of crystallization is accompanied by the formation of M-phase in addition to mu -phase. The crystallization of Ni sub 55 Nb sub 45 begins at 913K as formation of some M-phase. Crystallization of Ni sub 62 Nb sub 38 begins at 913K as formation of M-phase, followed by formation of beta -phase and some mu -phase. Crystallization occurs most rapidly in the Ni sub 62 Nb sub 38 samples, while the Ni sub 55 Nb sub 45 amorphous samples is the most stable of those studied. The crystallization temperature thus depends on concentration. Graphs, spectra. 9 ref.--M.W.C.
