Description
Summary:A general framework, for the description of thermal activation of domain walls over pinning barriers in ferromagnets subjected to applied fields, is developed and used to evaluate the zero field quenched magnetization measured on warming, M ZFQ ↑, and the magnetic viscosity constant, S V, in various physical circumstances. Both a recently observed linear rise with temperature of M ZFQ ↑ and so-called “reentrant spin-glass” behaviour are elucidated. Particular attention is given to the special case of Fe-Ni Invar which is studied more fully in an accompanying paper.
