Recovery and recrystallization of high purity lead determined with a low temperature calorimeter

When metals are subjected to plastic deformation a certain fraction of the deformation work done is stored as the energy of disorder of point defects and dislocations in the material. As a result, the material is changed to a (thermodynamically unstable) state of higher Gibbs free energy. The lattic...

description When metals are subjected to plastic deformation a certain fraction of the deformation work done is stored as the energy of disorder of point defects and dislocations in the material. As a result, the material is changed to a (thermodynamically unstable) state of higher Gibbs free energy. The lattice defects produced can be thermally activated and, depending on their different activation energies, can succesively anneal out. The annealing spectra of high-purity Pb, Pb 99.999, that was subjected to torsion at liquid nitrogen temperature are presented. The calorimetric measurements were carried out using a differential heat flux calorimeter suitable for low temperatures. The results are compared to data in the literature. Graphs. 20 ref.--M.W.C.
