Summary: | An 86-year old asymptomatic male was incidentally found to have a variant of levoatrial cardinal vein (LACV) forming a complete venous ring. This is the first report of this variant. Although rare, the ability to identify LACV in the adult population is clinically significant because it may result in bi-directional shunt and the development of symptoms is an indication for intervention.
•LACV is primarily seen in post-natal life with significant structural heart disease.•Symptomatic manifestations during adulthood are rare and intervention is indicated.•Asymptomatic LACV without structural cardiac pathology is exceedingly rare.•Vasculature variants that form rings can result in bi-directional shunting.•Identification on imaging is important as clinical follow up should be considered. |
