Description
Summary:Axisymmetric stress analysis of adhesive butt joints subjected to tensile loads was carried out. In the analysis dissimilar adherends and an adhesive bond were replaced with finite solid cylinders. Stress distributions of adhesive joints were analysed by the axisymmetric theory of elasticity. The effects of the adherend stiffness, the adhesive thickness, the ratio of Poisson's ratio and the normal aspect ration and the shear stress distrobutions were shown by numerical calculations. The stress singularity became large at the edges of the interface where the adherend stiffness was large. Fracture occurred at this interface. The analytical result was in fairly good agreement with experimental results concerning strains of the adherends.
