Description
Summary:The reaction products of alumina and feldspar materials were studied in order to establish the general pattern of formation of compositions for porcelain that combine high strength and low sintering temperatures. Sinters of alumina and feldspar materials prepared from various raw materials were investigated. The chemical composition of the raw materials, and the batch composition of the mixtures is tabulated. The sintering temperature of the mixtures varies from 1300 to 1520 C. The elastic modulus of specimens fired at their sintering temperatures lies within the limits 80000 to 120000 MPa. Mathematical analysis was carried out which showed that an increase in both the K2O:Na2O and the alpha-Al2O3:sigma R2O ratios leads to an increase in the sintering temperature. From the equations it was possible to identify the ratios for which the elastic moduli have maximum values. Adjustment of the ratios for selecting body compositions with optimum elastic moduli is discussed.
