Description
Summary:The design of a 1 → 2 GHz broadband 90° differential phase shifter is addressed. The phase shifter employs a double Schiffman section realized in microstrip in combination with two Plessey internally matched MMIC SPDT switches. The even and odd mode impedances of the Schiffman sections have been determined using Faltin's computer program PHIPHI. The dimensions of the edge coupled lines have been calculated using expressions due to Garg and Bahl. Computer simulation has been used to determine the S-parameters of the phase shifter. Mismatch increased with frequency due to the inhomogeneity of the dielectric surrounding the coupled line sections. The measured phase error was within ±1 · 5° between 0 · 92 and 1 · 74GHz. Above 1 · 7GHz the phase error sharply increased.
