Frequency dependence of the relaxation strength of the bordoni peak in polycrystalline 5N aluminium

The ultrasonic attenuation of polycrystalline 5N aluminium has been measured at a frequency of 10 MHz. The relaxation of the Bordoni peak for specimens deformed by more than 4% is compared with values obtained by others at lower frequencies for specimens of similar purity and deformation. It is foun...

Description
Summary:The ultrasonic attenuation of polycrystalline 5N aluminium has been measured at a frequency of 10 MHz. The relaxation of the Bordoni peak for specimens deformed by more than 4% is compared with values obtained by others at lower frequencies for specimens of similar purity and deformation. It is found that the relaxation strength decreases with increasing frequency, in qualitative agreement with calculations based on the dislocation kink-pair formation model.
