Summary: | A geometrical and energetical analysis of the chain conformation of syndiotactic polystyrene has been performed. The geometrical analysis shows the internal parameters in the line repetition groups which are compatible with the constitution and configuration of the polymer. Conformational energy calculations performed by maps and minimizations have given the best conformations in the crystalline field having chain axes in accordance with experimental data. The results provide corroborating evidences in favour of the existence of conformational polymorphism in syndiotactic polystyrene. |
