Summary: | A short computer code is presented to determine the gradient Richardson number from tower measurements of wind and temperature. The gradient Richardson number is a useful parameter to determine whether sublayers of the atmospheric boundary layer are laminar or turbulent. Inspection and manual correction of velocity and temperature profiles using mixed-layer similarity theory eliminates systematic errors in the velocity and temperature profiles obtained from the tower observations. Then, an application of the SAS computer code calculates and plots isopleths of the gradient Richardson number for arbitrary averaging times and thermal stability. |
