Summary:This paper reports the growth of CuZnAl and CuAlNi single crystals by Bridgman technique. Different rates of ampoule lowering ranging from 5 to 10 mm/h were used and it has been observed that good quality large crystals having more than 18 mm diameter and 75 mm length could be grown at a rate of 7.2 mm/h. The composition of the growth crystals were uniform and were determined to be CuZn 14.03Al 8.56 and CuAl 14.53Ni 4.2 (wt%). In order to characterize the shape memory effect, it has been supplemented by microstructure.
