Description
Summary:ONCE UPON A DISTANT WAR By William Prochnau. Illustrated. 546 pp. New York: Times Books/Random House. $27.50. THIS is a story about the first two years of America's fatal involvement in Vietnam and a handful of young reporters who refused to accept the rosy views of the American military, or its admonitions to "get on the team." By doing so they brought down upon themselves the wrath not only of the American and South Vietnamese Governments, but the opprobrium of their older and more established colleagues, and even the news organizations for whom they worked.
