Summary: | Acute cholecystitis is a common medical problem in the United States resulting in hospital admission with definitive care being a cholecystectomy. 1 Upon pathologic review, the most common finding in gallbladder specimen is chronic cholecystitis denoted by the presence of chronic inflammatory cells. 2 On occasion, in addition to chronic inflammatory cells, lymphoid follicles within the lamina propria are the predominant feature, and is therefore referred to as follicular cholecystitis.
