Summary: | The photo-oxidation behaviour of blends of low density polyethylene and nylon 6 has been studied as a function of their composition and of the irradiation time. The photo-oxidation of the nylon rich blends is much faster than that of the homopolymers and of the other blends.
It is proposed that the photo-oxidation starts in the polyamide phase and that the oxygenated radicals promote the photo-oxidation also in the polyethylene. The photo-oxidation occurs mainly in the boundary regions. The result of these interactions is the formation of copolymers which act as compatibilizing agents. |
