description Studies are reported on the investigations of the structure, phase composition and mechanical properties of the AL4S alloys after heat treatment under various conditions. It is shown that the differences in properties in sections of castings cooled at various rates during crystallization are related to changes in solubilities of the basic alloying elements in alpha -Al and beta -Si solid solutions and their redistribution during homogenization before quenching. An optimum set of heat-treatment conditions is presented that produced high levels and stability of properties in castings of various thickness.
