Description
Summary:X-ray studies of Pt sub 5 An (An = americium, Cm, Bk, Cf) obtained as a thin layer on a Pt substrate have been performed. It was found that they show a hexagonal structure of the Cu sub 5 Ca type. Lattice parameters of the phases have been measured. X-ray amorphization of the crystal structure of Pt sub 5 exp 244 Cm (for 120 h) and Pt sub 5 exp 249 Cf (for 70 days) as a result of self-irradiation at room temperature and its recovery after annealing have been revealed. An increase has been observed in the Pt sub 5 Bk lattice parameter and the lattice volume after a 140 day exposure. It is connected with both the exp 249 Cf build-up due to exp 249 Bk beta -decay and the appropriate increase in the alpha -activity of the sample. A correlation between the Pt sub 5 An cell volume and the actinide metallic radii was demonstrated. Graphs. 10 ref.--AA
