Summary: | A rational approach for determining the kinetic parameters (the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor) for char oxidation has been developed. The approach is based on the ultimate analysis of the parent coal. A predictive model based on this approach is shown to provide reasonable estimates of char reactivity for parent coal ranks varying from lignite to anthracite. The predictions are in particularly good agreement with the data in the temperature range typical of pulverized coal flames in boilers (1500–2200 K). At lower temperatures (< 1300 K), the predicted reactivities are lower than those measured. |
