Summary: | A simple model has been modified and adapted to the study of binary phosphate glasses. Application of the model consists of evaluating certain parameters independent of composition from density and compressibility data of the binary system and then expressing the compressibility for any composition in terms of these parameters. Application of the model in P2O5-Sm2O3 and P2O5-MoO3 glasses is restricted within the ranges of composition below 20 mol% Sm2O3 and 55 mol% MoO3. Calculated and experimental values of compressibilities of the three glass systems are tabulated and it is noted that there is good agreement between the two sets of figures. 5 refs. |
