Description
Summary:At recent years a sufficient degradation of AC quench currents in superconducting cables with insulated strands was observed in tests of AC superconducting devices in comparison with the sums of DC critical currents of the strands. It was assumed that stability of such cables could be very much connected with different types of quench development processes at different current levels. In the present work the stability margins interpreted as threshold currents between redistribution and slow quench regions were investigated for cables with different strands. The results are compared with calculations. A new point of view on the problem of stability of AC cables is discussed.
