Description
Summary:An unusually persistent jet stream pattern in July produced was exceptionally cloudy and wet across western Alaska, which kept temperatures down to slightly below normal levels while farther east generally warmer than normal temperatures prevailed but in most areas less rain than is normal. Northwest Alaska received record rainfall, including areas north of Kotzebue that also had heavy rains in June. This led to sustained high water levels on area rivers and extensive erosion in some places. Southeast Alaska was also unusually dry in July, but thanks to copious rain in May and June, there were no water deficit concerns. July brought some hot weather to portions of the state. The warm and comparatively dry weather allowed for some wildfire activity in the eastern half of mainland Alaska.
