Vibrational kinetics of molecular nitrogen and its role in the composition of the polar thermosphere

We investigate the vibrational kinetics of molecular nitrogen in the polar thermosphere according to one-dimensional non-steady set-up. The role of TV, VV, VV′-processes and auroral and thermal electron excitation is evaluated in the altitude range 100 to 200 km. The influence of vibrationally excit...

Description
Summary:We investigate the vibrational kinetics of molecular nitrogen in the polar thermosphere according to one-dimensional non-steady set-up. The role of TV, VV, VV′-processes and auroral and thermal electron excitation is evaluated in the altitude range 100 to 200 km. The influence of vibrationally excited molecular nitrogen on thermospheric composition during beam-plasma instabilities is discussed.
