Summary: | Oxidation of 2.25Cr--1Mo steel and the effect of salt mixtures in enhancing the oxidation rates are reported. Corrodents and test conditions were selected to simulate the conditions in resulting in hot gas corrosion in coal fired superheaters. Kinetic plots for the oxygen uptake revealed the fact that the coated samples showed more weight gain than uncoated samples. The coated surface was severly degraded after 80 h of exposure showing extensive cracking and spalling of surface layers. Compounds formed on the surface were identified as oxides of iron and chromium using XRD studies |
