Summary:The linear and nonlinear optical properties of 2-methoxy-5-nitrophenol (MNP) have been investigated. MNP crystals belong to the monoclinic system with space group P2 1 . The optical axis Y was identical to the crystal axis b , and the dipole axis was found to be nearly parallel to these. The cut-off wavelength was 522 nm. The second-order nonlinear optical coefficient d 22 at 1064 nm was 46±7 pm/V.
