Description
Summary:It is expected that the discovery of new amorphous alloys with high glass-forming ability will enable production of bulk amorphous plates by a conventional casting process. Technological research has been carried out on the industrial die-casting machine 71109SV. The parameters of heat transfer were established by experimental and computational methods, and the relation between plate thickness and cooling rate was obtained. For production of bulk amorphous articles, three- and four-component alloys based on the Zr(Ti)-Cu system were used. A structural study of amorphous plates with a thickness of 0.1 to 2 mm revealed the presence of fine inclusions of a crystalline phase less than 0.5% by volume. The quality of the plates was satisfactory if the impurity content was less than 1 at.%. Some amorphous alloys investigated have the hardness of hardened steel, good thermal stability and high corrosion resistance.
