Description
Summary:Optical and electron microscopy together with stress rupture life tests were performed to study the effect of high-temperature exposure on the morphology and distribution of the γ′ phase in IN-100 superalloy. Annealing near the solvus temperature for the γ′ phase has a strong effect on microstructure. The relationship between variations in the fraction of the γ′ phase Wγ′, and creep resistance has been established. Wγ, decreases with annealing temperature because of dissolution of γ′ particles in the γ matrix. Decreased creep resistance of annealed samples is ascribed to the lower Wγ′. The difference in creep resistance between samples with the same Wγ′ is a consequence of microstructural degeneration during high-temperature exposure.
