Summary: | Electrochemical activation of liquid glass binders for abrasive mixtures has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the properties of such mixtures. Activated liquid glass was prepared in a model batch chamber activator, and an installation that would provide the requisite yield for industrial-scale production and be suitable for long-term operation was developed. The effect of the structural parameters of the activator (position of electrodes and diaphragm, density of the supplied current, amount of electrolyte, method of feeding liquid glass and electrolyte) on the properties of the activated liquid glass was established. The data can be used for designing the structure and technological parameters of an activator in accordance with the requisite yield. 2 refs. |
