Summary: | Mathematical models were developed to simulate runoff and sediment and pollutant removal from catchments into water bodies. Four basic types of models representing different levels of complexity and detail in the description of hydrological and hydrochemical processes are proposed. The choice of a model for a particular application was dictated by the availability of initial information and the nature of the task in hand. The models were tested in small basins on the Karelian isthmus, west of Ladoga lake and in experimental catchment areas in the south of the Ladoga lake drainage area. The results showed the models to be useful for evaluation, simulation and forecasting of runoff, soil erosion and chemical substance yields from catchments. |
