Summary: | In the last few years a lot of new video transmission and displays formats have been developed. A common problem of all systems is the compatibility of aspect ratios. Even though 16:9 is widely accepted as the future format, its broad introduction is hampered by invest budgets, copyright issues or economic concerns. This paper describes a highly integrated TV video decoder VPC (Video Processor and Combfilter) based on the DIGIT 3000 architecture. The VPC processes all worldwide analog video signals (including the European PALplus) and allows nonlinear 'Panorama' aspect ratio conversion. Thus 4:3 and 16:9 systems can easily be configured by software. The aspect ratio scaling is also used as sample rate converter to provide a line locked digital component output bus (YCrCb) compliant to ITUR-601. An optional adaptive 2H combfilter performs Y/C separation for all TV standards. The VPC can be used for single scan as well as double scan TVs (50/60 and 100Hz). |
