Tracing the molecular hydrogen content of the Draco nebula: very low N(H2)/W(12CO) ratios or varying FIR-emissivities?

Summary: | H I, CO, and IRAS 100-micron data are used to determine properties, such as column density, extinction, and total mass or molecular mass fractions for the Draco nebula. The method of Heithausen and Mebold (1989), used in the present analysis, is briefly reviewed, and the principles of the statistical method used to get the FIR-emissivity and the value of B are introduced. The results are used to derive the atomic and the molecular content as well as the total mass of the Draco nebula and its different molecular clumps. The consequences of the visual extinction and the distance are discussed. (AIAA) |
