Kinetics of phosphorus segragation in Cr-Mo-V low alloy steel

The segregation kinetics of phosphorus in the 2.6Cr-0.7Mo-0.3V steel at 853K was studied. The bulk diffusion was used and the kinetics of segregation to the grain boundaries form the bulk was determined by volume diffusion of impurity with bulk concentration (C sub i (x,t). Description
Summary:The segregation kinetics of phosphorus in the 2.6Cr-0.7Mo-0.3V steel at 853K was studied. The bulk diffusion was used and the kinetics of segregation to the grain boundaries form the bulk was determined by volume diffusion of impurity with bulk concentration (C sub i (x,t). The steel samples were austenized, water quenched, tempered, water cooled and aged for three different times. The microstructure of the steel and on Auger spectrum taken at the intergranular area were studied. The equilibrium values of the grain boundary segregation of phosphorus which was experimentally found was in accordance with the result calculated using the bulk diffusion model. Also the segregation energy was higher and the Mo-P interaction energy was lower; and if the grain boundary segregation of phosphorus was controlled by bulk diffusion in the area close to the grain boundary an interaction between phosphorus and alloying elements (e.g. molybdenum) was taken into account.
