Description
Summary:Mechanical alloying is found to provide a simple route for the synthesis of nanocrystalline zirconia + various oxides solid solutions, thus avoiding high temperature sintering processes. Raman spectroscopy is used to determine the monoclinic, tetragonal and cubic phases in mechanically alloyed ZrO sub 2 -Y sub 2 O sub 3 and ZrO sub 2 -CoO powder mixtures, confirming the technique as a suitable method for distinguishing tetragonal and cubic structures in this particular case when it is impossible to do so by using XRD only.
