Description
Summary:A material system suitable for manufacturing and modelling ceramic filters was devised. The effect of axial moulding pressure on the grain size distribution was determined. The most important boundary conditions of a mathematical model for planning the pore size distribution of the filters were established. The rate of grain breakage can be determined from the increase in specific surface as a function of axial moulding pressure. If 20% is the maximum growth allowed, the model provides the pressure range that can be applied on forming ceramic filters using a given grain fraction. A method and instrumentation were devised to measure the pore size distribution over the range used by Hg-penetration porosimeters. Pore diameters of 15-500 micron can be measured by this method. 3 refs.
